What the study is

One real situation. Useful detail.

The Everyday Life Study asks invited adults to describe one genuine recent everyday-life situation. Invitations are delivered to local households, but the situation you describe can come from any part of everyday life.

One recent situation

Describe one genuine situation from within the previous three months that you were directly involved in, or helped someone else deal with. Focus on what actually happened rather than broad opinions or guesses.

What you did

Explain what you did, tried or decided in response to the situation, including any workaround that helped or fell short.

Time, money or effort

Where you reasonably can, describe the time, money or effort involved and what a more useful finished outcome would have looked like.

What we are trying to understand

We want to understand where everyday situations take more time, money or effort than they should, what people currently do to deal with them, and what a better outcome would have looked like.

You do not need to suggest an app, service or product. The useful part is describing what actually happened, what you tried and what would have made the situation easier.

Who can take part

A genuine experience, described by someone who was involved.

Choose one genuine situation from within the previous three months where something was difficult, inconvenient, took extra time or effort, or led you to make a decision, take action or use a workaround. An ordinary activity that went normally is not the intended example, and the situation does not need to be dramatic or serious. You may have dealt with it directly or helped someone else deal with it.

You are aged 18 or over

The study is for adults. Anyone under 18 will be taken to an early ending and should not continue with the questionnaire.

The experience was recent

You should be able to describe one genuine everyday-life situation from within the previous three months while remembering enough to explain what happened and what you did.

You were involved or helped

You dealt with the situation directly, or you helped someone else deal with it. Second-hand stories that you were not involved in are not eligible.

The response is complete and genuine

Answers must contain enough useful detail to review. Duplicate, copied, automated or deliberately misleading submissions may be excluded.

Research participation and reward participation are separate choices.

More than one adult from an invited household may participate independently. Each individual should submit only once. Reward participation must be selected separately, and duplicate submissions do not create additional reward or draw entries.

How taking part works

One questionnaire. One real everyday-life situation.

Read the study information, choose one genuine event from within the last three months and describe what happened in your own words. The questionnaire is designed to work clearly on a phone from beginning to end.

Read before you begin

Check who can take part, how the research works, how your information will be used and the rules that apply to the available rewards.

Describe one recent experience

Use one situation from within the previous three months that you dealt with directly or helped someone else deal with. Allow around 15 minutes to complete the questionnaire.

Submit for consistent review

Responses are checked for eligibility, useful detail and duplicates. Only participants who separately choose reward participation are considered for the £10 reward and £100 draw under the published terms.

Study rewards

A thank-you for genuine, useful participation.

Rewards are only for qualifying eligible submissions that are genuine, relevant and include enough meaningful detail to be useful for the research. Simply completing the questionnaire does not automatically qualify. Qualification does not depend on giving a positive answer, being willing to pay or suggesting a product or solution.

One draw
£100

One participant draw

Each qualifying eligible individual who chooses reward participation receives one entry into the draw for one £100 physical Lidl gift card. Duplicate submissions do not create extra entries.

Follow-up
£25

Selected follow-up participants

Up to eight selected participants receive one £25 physical Lidl gift card after successfully completing the required follow-up research. Selection is not guaranteed.

Lidl does not sponsor or administer this research and is not associated with it.

Physical Lidl gift cards are independently purchased by Avlior Research. Research participation does not require reward participation, and the main questionnaire does not collect reward delivery details.
